THE BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL FIELD TRIP TO MECCA:

Tulsa is...
a nice place. We went for Mayfest, to see Admiral Twin. So we went knowing that we probably weren't going to meet Hanson, and we were absoutely right. In fact, while we were painting T-town red, Hanson was in California at the Skywalker Ranch, seeing this little independent movie called Star Wars that you may or may not have heard of.

We stayed at the Adams Mark Hotel, which was quite posh, probably too post for our small collegiate wallets. We had fun. The hotel is located downtown, which is where Mayfest happens. In fact, not much else happens downtown, except for things that are supposed to happen downtown, like banking and commerce and other corporate stuff like that. People don't live in downtown Tulsa. They work there, which is why all the stores and restaurants and fun things are located in the suburbs. Except they're not suburbs. It's still Tulsa. Tulsa is big. Very big. Spatially, it's probably twice the size of Boston. It's just got considerably fewer people in it.

Yes, the land is flat. Yes, random winds that seem to come out of nowhere will almost knock you down when you aren't paying attention. Yes, it's quite warm there, even in May. Yes, there were tornado warnings in the next county while we were there. Yes, it's a very different place from New England. Thank goodness. We succeeded in giving ourselves a change of scenery, that's for sure.

We went to Laser Quest. Yes we did. So not only did we fulfill the dream of actually playing the game, we played it in Tulsa, on the actual floorboards that have been traversed by three certain pairs of Dr. Martens. We played with a group of young gentlemen (very young) who terrorized us the entire time. We did not place well, (Corinne: 2nd to last; Me: 5th to last) and we enjoyed every second of it. Of course, we were early getting there, because we are horrible at logistics, so we went to the Unique Thrift Store next door, in which I bought myself a wool skirt for $3.00. It's terribly cute, and officially qualifies as my first purchase in Tulsa, OK.

We saw Admiral Twin play for the third time and met them for the first time. Quite an attractive, charismatic, talented bunch they are. We like them, yes we do. We stood in the front row, danced as much as possible (considering we were smashed like sardines), hooted, whooped, took pictures and had ourselves a general time. Their show, as usual, was wonderful. (Again… Do you have their album? You really should [get it.])

For the rest of the trip, we discovered the wonders of the Tulsa bus system and wandered around. Our trip was most excellent. We came. We saw. We spent lots of money. You should do it too someday. So that's our trip to Tulsa. We miss it. We'll probably go back.
