Road to Albertane

Hanson and Puff Daddy

Oh man! And I thought I was a Puff Daddy fan! But I guess, I’ve got nothing on Isaac “Puffy” Hanson — apparently, the founder of the Albertane chapter of Sean Comb’s official fan club. I think Hanson should sample songs by Puff and the Family for their next album (Wait a minute, wouldn’t that ultimately be sampling Sting? hmmm). A video could have the guys dressed in white suits and hats doing the Puff Daddy. During a Conan interview, doesn’t Taylor even suggest that having this mega-producer actually appear in a video with Hanson would ensure its success? One word: Godzilla. Now that movie was HUGE, wasn’t it? (cough) Seriously, I had to pick myself up off the ground each time I witnessed broccoli, Ringo and Austin Powers doing the _step-back _step-back _step-back. Too much!! (Jackie trying not to fall off her chair again. ;-D)

Random Notes

These are bizarre and truly random.

Zac

  • Zac looks like he’s ready to laugh during “Soldier” Could it be because the band is really playing in a studio and yet his brothers keep trying to get the “audience” to participate during this set?
  • Zac teases the camera when he’s drinking juice by blocking the view to his mom, Mackie and Zoe. I can almost hear him smirking, “I know some people will be pausing and slowing this video to try to see my family.”
  • I love Zac's sidewalk cartoon art. How cool!

Taylor

  • The tour of the bus was made especially interesting when Taylor shows us the bunks. Does anybody remember a certain "Seinfeld" episode that involved Japanese businessmen sleeping in a huge chest of drawers? That's what those beds made me think of . . . (c:
  • Taylor's reactions to his older brother's goofiness were especially endearing to me.
  • While at the Palace, a guard was telling us how he had played soccer with Hanson on the floor of that venue on the day of the concert. Skeptical as usual, I thought he was just playing with the fans’ heads, but after seeing this video, I might have to consider that he was telling the truth. Is that Ashley that Taylor celebrates with at the end of that video clip?

Isaac

  • It was refreshing to see Isaac in his element -- composing songs. I know I'm not alone in eagerly anticipating their next studio album. (grin)
  • Isaac in a muscle shirt? I was amused. Nothing personal, Ike. It was just surprising, that’s all.
  • Isaac in a baseball cap — I wanted to hug him. Actually, all the guys, again proved, that they look adorable in baseball caps.

Other Stuff

  • Could Zoe be any cuter? The only Hanson besides her oldest brothers with any significant air time and she looks like she’s in an early “Beastie Boys” video by staring at us into the camera.
  • All that tour food was making me hungry. I wondered if Dr. Food made a “Waldo-like” appearance on the video or did we only catch his (or her - hehe) voice at times?
  • My only hope of being included in the video involved that infamous 7 hours spent in front of Planet Hollywood in Chicago. All hopes were squashed when I realized footage from that event was sketchy and very brief (You can see horses and the red carpet, but no sign of either my sister or me. Shrug.)
  • I love those scenes when the guys chase after the bus . . . Whew! I’m glad they finally caught up or else Jason, Scott and Matt would have had to perform without them.
  • I literally got choked up and teary-eyed in a moment of nostalgia. At the end, when the guys perform “Man From Milwaukee,” I couldn’t help but think of their first video. I started to sniffle remembering Zac leaping up and down as he greeted the crowd in Toronto, Canada before they performed his song there. Although it’s fun to see the band mature into a more serious rock group, I felt like a big sister who suddenly realizes, everything changes. The band always looks like they’re having a really fun time performing, but there’s something different about this tour video. The early days from TT&MON have a unique charm and I suddenly felt the contrast in that final signature song from the Albertane Tour. I wonder if that made sense to anybody.

Final thoughts

I’m sure I missed a TON of things, but I’m confident that I’ll be reading about them on other pages. I’m always amazed by the infinite details that escape my attention in these videos. Please let me know what you thought of my humble reaction to this crazy backstage pass from the Albertane Tour.

After reading other people's pages . . .

Amanda, you reminded me that the shadow on the Red Rocks was my favorite MOEment from the video. I will be visiting Denver this summer to spend some time with a friend's family and she has already promised me a stop at this amazing venue. Yay!

When Zac asks if we're sure we want them to come back, it really felt like a sequel since he ends the last video by telling us, "It's over. Bye-bye."

Jenn, you pointed out how Taylor and Isaac's closeness is very evident on this video. I completely agree. As you know, it reminds me of my sister and makes me want to give her a call right now (At the risk of making everybody queasy, we're basically best friends. (c:)

I discovered another favorite scene after reading Kangarooland, a page with tons of unbelievably detailed observations on all of Hanson's stuff. Someone on that page noticed something very interesting after Taylor turns off the light -- when he's showing us the bunks on the bus. Taylor says, "Oh God" when he realizes how dark it is. A moment later, you can hear Mrs. Hanson (?) say very quietly in the background from behind the curtain, "Watch your language." It's true, taking the Lord's name in vain is breaking of one of the 10 Commandments -- but now the question is, "Just how many Commandments are broken weekly on 'Melrose Place?'" It's not my place to judge, just wondering . . . (c:
