So glad you made it . . .

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.

After expressing a palpable thirst to hear Hanson's "iconic album" again back in November, the Hanson fan mail arrived like a return call that the 10th anniversary recording would be available in December. I signed up and was not disappointed. With just a few missing parts, the new recording resurrects the charm giving nostalgia a whole new twist: Middle of Nowhere: Acoustic.

I have yet to post about the h.net members kit, but I can sum it up in one word, minimalistic. I appreciate the 2D of it--when I tried to play it in my dvd, I realized it was simply an audio CD, commenting on several b-side tracks. I personally found these "for our most loyal fans only" songs, the strength of the latest album. I've said it before, but I have a bias--in a good-way--for "Got a Hold on Me." I found it courageous, a quasi-parody. Intentional or not? ::shrug::

Here are more than one word about my latest concert experience at the Chicago "Hosue of Blues" on a balmy evening at the end of September, before a nasty blood clot mysteriously dislodged itself in a certain band member. Looking back, it feels that much more carefree:

The Walk: Chicago #1

Hanson wants to write a song just for me!

Lots of words about "The Walk."

Musings in the documentary, "Strong Enough to Break."

Spring Break feels like a luxury--like something I should have left behind with my term papers and old college text books, but have been granted far into my post-college life that it feels almost anachronistic (Much like maintaining a Hanson fan page when people read blogs and posts on the fan website more frequently).

Anyway, I've had time to check out the hanson.net FUTY and saw glimpses of the new "Go" video. My free associations include

  • "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own" by U2, because of the journey from solitude to community
  • "Mandolin Rain" by Bruce Hornsby--if you remember this old timey video, the musicians were also performing in a field or outdoors. I just loved this concept! I know it's been done many times, but this video took me to this particular song.

Finally, I just wanted to mention that I love what I've heard of "Been There Before." My pre-order of "The Walk" is on its way. I still grin when I think of the association between the title of this album and the band's father's name. (c;

Check out "The Great Divide." This song reminds you of why you still care . . . not only about Hanson, but about the difference you want to make.

Back from Cleveland, I write a formulaic concert review: House of Blues--Cleveland. I was 3 for 5 with my concert requests listed below, just days before the show. That my whining paid off in any measure, is a rare mystery.

Belated Birthday wishes to Zac.

I am more surprised than anyone that my old concert fever has returned in full force. I have pin pointed its source, Rockapella! Thanks to Laura, I purchased "Don't Tell Me You Do" years ago by this, yes amazing, group. When I heard that Hanson covered "A Change In My Life" at a recent show, I almost jumped out of my skin with, well, happiness doesn't quite capture it . . . rapture?! Not only for the invisible acknowledgement of my friend, but also because this song is a favorite from the album.

As this tour rolls along, I have been priding myself that I haven't been fetishly keeping up with set lists and local reviews . . . but this one cover has sent me spinning back into a greedy state of, "If only they would cover . . . " neediness, gaping desire for the Cleveland show. There came a moment when I lost my will . . .

This is my wish list . . . and I saw these songs on a friend's comments about the show she attended. Honestly, to not hear them in Cleveland would be crushing blow, but that sounds whiney so I'll rephrase . . . these would be just so lovely to hear in Cleveland (the only tour date that fit in this teacher's schedule):

A Change in My Life (obviously)
Thinking of You
Believe
Rip It up
Feelin' Alright

A heart gets weary when it doesn't belong . . .
But with you I belong . . . 'cause you help me be strong.
