Poetry || Whispered Lies

there they were
floating together in the dark
touching skin, connecting bodies
lips unable to kiss away the longing
hands grasping to hold on
to a feeling neither of them could understand
their minds clogged with a million thoughts
about how they shouldn't do this
for they knew they would get hurt
trying to stay afloat while drowning in each other
they danced together under the stars
their eyes shining, their smiles matching
they continued to explore each other
while the sea carried them far away from reality
he looked into her eyes, pushed her hair behind her ear
and whispered "I love you" into the night
she looked up at him and laughed
he smiled and kissed her, holding her close to his body
she surrendered to his embrace, grateful for the lie
